Money problems – using algebra

Children are asked to investigate a money problem using algebra and to plot results on a graph. Includes answers. N.B Once the formula n+8 = 3n has been discussed, teachers may want to to ask children to subtract n from each side, enabling children to see what the table and graph should show: that the totals are equal when n=4.
