A scheme of work to help you to deliver a series of six rounders lessons tailored to the requirements of the key stage 2 PE curriculum.

These complete PE lesson plans will help your class understand rounders rules and develop their batting, fielding skills and bowling technique – the fundamentals of striking and fielding games and teamwork!

The lesson plans include ideas for learning objectives, warm-ups, main activities, plenaries, teaching points, success criteria and AfL.

A sample lesson:

Learning focus: To develop consistency of throwing skills.

Warm-up: Make a big circle with two or three children in centre running to receive a ball from a child on the side.  (5 mins)

Main activity: Four groups of 5 with a tennis ball take turns to throw at a target on wall. Focus on accuracy. Two groups of 5 throw at hoops on floor to test distance. (20 mins)

Support/progress: Children to stand closer or further away.

Teaching points: Throw underarm and keep your arm straight. Communication is key.

Success criteria: ·      

  • bowl underarm accurately

  • throw and catch accurately

  • work well as a team

  • recognise strength of others

  • identify areas of improvement

Plenary and AfL: Three groups compete while other three watch and comment on success criteria.

Run through teaching points while cooling down. (5 mins)
