Comparing and contrasting poems
Children compare two classic poems on the theme of winter. One is the poem Winter by William Shakespeare and the other is Winter by Robert Louis Stevenson. Children read and discuss each poem individually, identifying key images, the language used and the rhyming pattern. They then go on to compare and contrast the two poems to identify how they are similar and how they differ, before deciding which poem they prefer and why. This poetry comprehension resource is suitable for years 5 and 6. It can be used in a guided reading session or whole class.

Review this resourceHelpful, thanks. I am wondering, though, about the question of “Old English” in the first poem. Is there real Old English, like we know from for example Beowulf?
