A quick note about fonts
Many of our resources work best if you have Sassoon Primary and Sassoon Infant fonts installed on your computer. Most schools will have these, so see your ICT administrator if you'd like them for yourself!

What is my username? |
If you joined online using a debit/credit card your username should be the email address you entered when joining. You will have received a confirmation email about this on the day you joined.
If you joined via your school then you should have been allocated a username which will resemble an email address e.g. class@myschool. Your school will have received a letter outlining these when you joined. We recommend that you personalise your username by changing it to your own email address: please log in with your allocated username and then click on 'Edit details' on the top menu bar. Personalising your username will make it more secure, and will also ensure that you receive Teachit Primary's e-newsletters (you can opt out of any you don't want via 'Edit details').

I can log in but when I move around the site the system logs me out |
Can you see the 'Welcome back' message on the top orange menu bar? If so, the being logged out problem is probably to do with how your cookies are set up on your web browser. Cookies are small files placed on the hard drive of your computer which store your web preferences.
Internet Explorer
If you're using Internet Explorer version 6, 7 or 8*, check your cookie setting as follows:
- Open Internet Explorer and choose Tools from the Task Bar
- Then Internet Options
- Click the Privacy tab
- The default setting is Medium, which should allow you to accept cookies. To change your setting to Medium, simply move the slider. If your setting has been set to Custom, click the Advanced button and choose Accept Cookies.
If you're using Internet Explorer 5.0, it's time to request an upgrade as you'll find nothing really works! If you're not using Internet Explorer, search for 'cookies' in your browser's Help menu and follow the instructions to allow cookies.
* Not sure which version of Internet Explorer you're using? Choose Help from the task bar at the top of your browser and select About Internet Explorer.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Firefox and choose Options from the Task Bar.
- Click the Privacy tab.

Troubleshooting |
Go to the Adobe Reader support centre
Please note that users of Windows XP may encounter problems opening and using PDF documents, especially if Service Pack 2 has been installed. These can be resolved by re-installing the latest version of Acrobat Reader, available via the icon above. |
Word, Publisher, and Powerpoint Files
To use these files you will need to have Microsoft Office or the relevant program (e.g. Microsoft Word) installed on your computer. Most computers nowadays come with this software pre-installed and almost all schools use it. To find out more about Microsoft Office or to get technical help, visit www.microsoft.com/uk.
All members of Teachit Primary have access to our Microsoft Office files (Word, Publisher or PowerPoint). Once you have logged in, you can view, print and save these files in exactly the same way as the PDF files, by clicking or right clicking on the relevant icons.
The great advantage of the Microsoft Office files, as opposed to the PDFs, is that you can tweak, edit and adapt them in any way you like. You'll need to make sure that your computer is set to open the resources in the appropriate Microsoft Office program, though; otherwise it will open as a web page and you won't be able to edit it:
Windows XP and earlier versions of Windows
Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - File Types - Advanced - uncheck Browse in same window.
Windows Vista
Go to Control panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Scroll down the list to find the relevant file types (.doc, .ppt and .pub) and set the Current Default to Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office PowerPoint and Microsoft Office Publisher respectively.
Short-term fix for all versions
If you don't have the necessary permissions to make the above changes (if you're working on a networked computer, for instance) you can use either of these short-term fixes instead:
- right click on the file icon beside the resource and choose ‘Open in a New Window’ (or 'Open in a New Tab', if you're using Internet Explorer 7.0)
- right click on the icon, save the file and then open it from your computer.
If these solutions don't seem to work, it could be to do with the version of the Office program that you’re using. Email us at support@teachitprimary.co.uk, letting us know which version you have and which web browser you're using (e.g. Internet Explorer 7.0), and we'll look into the problem further for you.
Flash and HTML files
You will need Adobe Flash player to view and use our ready-made whizzy activities. Click here to get the latest version:

These files can be viewed and printed in the same way as the PDF and Microsoft Office files, by clicking on the relevant icons. Some of these activities allow you to copy and temporarily save your results: see the Help sections within each application for information and instructions.
If you have an RM network you may experience problems with Flash-based resources. Please ask your ICT administrator to contact us (support@teachitprimary.co.uk) for a solution (it's pretty technical!).
Whizzy DIY tools and word games
You'll need Adobe Flash Player to view and use Teachit Primary's whizzy applications (Magnet, Publisher, Choptalk, Syntex, Anagram, Choptalk and the Teachit Timer):

Help and instructions are included with each application - just follow the link to 'Find out more'.
If you have any problems using them, please let us know - email support@teachitprimary.co.uk or call us on 01225 788850.

Using My Teachit (individual members)
My Teachit is your personal membership area available via the My Teachit link on your menu. Here you can check and change your login details and also access and use My Folder. My Folder is your personal Teachit Primary filing system where you can select, store and organise your own favourite materials.
|
Putting resources in My Folder |
Log in to Teachit Primary and then simply click on the icon next to any resource. Bingo - it's in your folder! |
|
Viewing My Teachit |
Once you have logged into Teachit Primary, a My Teachit link appears in the menu at the top right of the screen. Simply click on the link to open My Teachit and view the resources you have filed into My Folder. Each resource you put into My Folder includes a link back to the relevant scheme of work so you can easily find and use associated resources or check if anything new has been added to the scheme. |
|
Adding notes to a resource |
Not only does My Folder give you the chance to personally organise the Teachit Primary resources but you can also add notes or comments to each one, giving you the option to leave instructions, provide additional information or store external links to accompanying materials. Next to each resource in My Folder you'll see this icon: Click on this icon and your notes field will open. |
|
Removing a resource |
To remove resources just click the icon next to each resource. |
Using My Teachit (school members)
My Teachit is a simplified and personalised area where you can select, store and annotate your ICT-based materials. This allows you to allocate resources for use by your pupils directly onscreen in the IT room or even at home on the internet. You can add instructions, notes or help for your pupils to view when they access the resources (you will need to have a school subscription to Teachit Primary to access these features).
|
Putting resources in My Teachit |
To add a resource simply browse the libraries in the normal way and click the new add to My Teachit icon: . |
|
Viewing My Teachit |
To view the items in My Teachit just click on the link in the main menu. To remove items just click the icon next to each resource. |
|
Adding your own resources, files or weblinks to My Teachit |
You can now make your own folders - just click on the icon to create one and give it an appropriate name. To add a new folder within an existing one click on the icon alongside the relevant folder.
To delete an entire folder click on the icon. Be careful - they are then gone for ever!
Once you have created your folders you can simply drag and drop the resources you have added to My Teachit by clicking on the resource name in the list below your folders.
You now also get 10MB of space on our servers to upload and store your own files, adapted Teachit resources, weblinks or even content from other companies or providers. Simply go to the folder you'd like to add content to and click on the icon. A search box will open to help you find your resources on your computer.
|
|
Adding pupil notes to a resource |
My Teachit does more than simply organising Teachit Primary resources ready for your next ICT based lesson. You can also use this facility to leave instructions or help for certain classes, or to allocate different resources to different groups within your classes. Each resource in My Teachit will have have a small icon like this next to it. Click on this icon and your notes field will open. |
|
What your students will see when they log in |
Your students have one group login (e.g. student@myschool). The default number of students who can log in at any one time is 30.
When your students log in to the Teachit Primary student space they will see a list of the teachers in your department. When they click on your name, your My Teachit list will open and display your folders and resources, including any notes that you have added. Students can also access all Teachit Primary’s whizzy things by clicking on the link to the top right of the student space..
To see how this works, we suggest you add a few resources to My Teachit and then log in as a student to have a look. |
The resource icons and what they mean
Within the resource libraries there are badges to the right of many of our resources. If you hover over these badges with your mouse a brief description will appear, but we thought we'd give you a run down of them here as well.
